Non-US people should note that “nine-month, academic year position” simply reflects the US context where academics are only regularly paid during term time.  “Summer salary” contributions are typically derived from research grants, summer teaching, or the dispersal of a nine-month salary over a 12 month period.  This is a regular position, and is tenure track (tenure is typically decided in Years 5-7).

University of Wisconsin-Madison. Assistant Professor of Geography, tenure-track position in GIScience.  Ph.D. is required at the time of appointment. Preference will be given to applicants broadly trained in Geovisualization having a strong background in cartographic design. Possible research areas include, but are not limited to, geovisual-analytics, map animation, cartographic design, and interactive mapping. Teaching requirements include introductory and advanced courses in cartography and geovisualization.
